What was u.comms tasked with?
To prepare and host the opening of the new “Awareness” art installation in Kyiv’s Obolon district, created as a tribute to territorial defense forces.
To secure extensive media coverage of the event and establish a clear association between the initiative and its creators – OKKO and the Come Back Alive Foundation.
The Meaning and Concept Behind the Art Installation
As part of the large-scale “Eye for an Eye” initiative, the art installation was created as a symbol of gratitude to Ukraine’s Territorial Defense Forces, who took up arms to defend the country from the first days of the full-scale invasion.
Turning Fear into Strength
The sculpture consists of two parts and represents the inner transformation experienced by Ukrainians: one embodies anxiety and confusion, while the other reflects calm and determination.
How Was the Opening Prepared and Delivered?
The u.comms team took on the full scope of event preparation, communications, and technical coordination.
Accessibility and Inclusivity
An information plaque was installed next to the art installation and replicated in Braille. A specialised organisation and an independent expert were engaged to ensure its accuracy. The plaque includes information about the concept and creators, as well as a QR code linking to the project website.
An Intimate Format and Seamless Coordination
- Format: The event took the form of a curator-led tour featuring key speakers.
- Coordination: The team managed guests, journalists, speakers and photo and video coverage throughout the event.
- Technical delivery: The event ran smoothly, with no delays or technical issues.
Video Production and Graphic Solutions
In partnership with AUROOM films, the team produced two campaign videos for the project.
Overcoming Technical Challenges
Because part of the sculpture has a mirrored surface, conventional filming would have captured reflections of the camera and equipment. The partners developed a 3D model of the art installation and created a fully graphic video that conveys the transformation of emotions from turmoil to calm.
