What was u.comms tasked with?
To deliver a comprehensive training program on effective, ethical, and accessible communications for specialists at “100% Life” Dnipro Region, a charitable organization supporting people living with HIV and tuberculosis.
The main focus was to develop and adapt an intensive practical training program for an online format, providing the team with hands-on skills in communications strategy development, social media and media relations, and ethical content creation.
Training program structure and implementation
u.comms CEO Ulyana Kolodii delivered a three-day intensive through several-hour online sessions designed to facilitate better understanding and practical application of the material.
Day 1: Strategy, media planning, and measuring results
Exploring the connection between communications and operational strategies, the components of a communications plan, identifying newsworthy opportunities, and selecting KPIs to measure effectiveness. The day concluded with a practical assignment.
Day 2: Social media and media pitching
Working with audience engagement tools, content balancing, and the principles of pitching stories to media outlets. Homework included writing a news story for media and a social media post.
Day 3: Accessibility, ethics, and effective copywriting
Reviewing the homework, exploring the principles of ethical and accessible communications, using appropriate terminology from the “Barrier-Free Dictionary,” and applying a step-by-step approach to writing content tailored to target audiences.
